Chemical Cold Store

AZCS
The Challenge
CAHD was employed by AstraZeneca to design and build a new chemical cold store and QA archive facility at its Macclesfield pharmaceutical production campus.
Solution
CAHD procured and managed several highly skilled subcontractors to deliver the critical elements of the scheme on time and within budget. The scope included:

  • Relocation of the existing cold store to an adjacent temporary facility
  • Demolition of existing structures
  • Provision of RC pad foundations and slab
  • Low level portal frame
  • Composite roof cladding, insulated cold store roof panels and walling and a state of the art space-saving storage system which incorporated rail cast into a super-flat screed
Double layers of rapid-rise doors were also used to maintain temperature control.

Consideration needed to be given to an adjacent building with foam firefighting deluge equipment and therefore all plant needed to be fitted with spark arrestors.

The chemical cold store was successfully commissioned in line with strict ATEX (Explosive Atmospheres) and DSEAR (Dangerous Substances) regulations.
Outcome
CAHD managed a multi-talented team to provide AstraZeneca with a facility that forms a vital role in the continued success of pharmaceutical production at the Macclesfield campus.
